Simple Things is an innovative multi-venue music festival taking place across some of Bristol’s most interesting spaces, including the historic Lakota club, labyrinthine police station-turned-arts space The Island, and the expansive Colston Hall theatre.
Totalling around 20 hours of music across the course of the weekend, Simple Things kicks off with an opening concert on the Friday followed by the main event on Saturday: an all-day and all-night marathon featuring many boundary-pushing producers, DJs, and performers from across the spectrum.
The line-up for 2015 boasted appearances from a typically diverse crop of artists: JME & Skepta, Battles, Savages, Lee Scratch Perry, Objekt and Godspeed You! Black Emperor all featured.
2016’s highlights included Kano, Warpaint, Death Grips, Nina Kraviz, Ben UFO, Shobaleader One and the much awaited Charlotte Church’s Late Night Pop Dungeon
A characteristically adventurous line-up was announced for 2017 including Leftfield, Wild Beasts, Daphni Clark, Juan Atkins, Omar Souleyman and IDLES to name a few.
Simple Things returned on 20 October 2018 with a new format but the same commitment to boundary pushing sounds. The day time acts included Slowdive, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and James Holden and the Animal Spirits, whilst night time venues hosted eclectic acts such as Helena Hauff, DJ Stingray, Optimo and Jane Fitz.
